Product Description

The Sound Alarm kit by MitchElectronics is a DIY electronics kit that lets you build an alarm that triggers upon detecting sound. Perfect for beginners!

The Sound Alarm kit allows you to build an alarm circuit that beeps a small (but very loud) buzzer upon detecting too much sound. The sensitivity of the microphone can be changed with the onboard potentiometer, and component values on the PCB can be changed if needed to increase or decrease the rate of the buzzer.

Because the buzzer is a 5V device, this circuit needs a 5V supply which can be obtained using a 7805 regulator or using another MitchElectronics kit such as the Simple Power Supply and the Simple Power Module SMD Trainer kit. If the buzzer is removed, the board can be powered from a 9V PP3 battery and an external buzzer circuit can then be used that is compatible with 9V supplies.

Applications

The Sound Alarm kit is an excellent project for those wanting to learn about electret microphones, how they work, and how they can be used in trigger circuits. This kit also teaches how logic circuits work, the function of flip flops, and how comparators can be used to convert an analogue signal into a digital signal. Additionally, this is also excellent for those looking to create basic security systems and those who want to train their soldering capabilities.
